Aeroklub Spišská Nová Ves

About the club

The region we see from above, the people, the equipment and the history of an airfield where people have flown since 1914.

The region from above

Three places you will see shortly after take-off.

Snow-covered peaks of the High Tatras seen from an aircraft40 KM FROM THE AIRFIELD

High Tatras

From the air, Slovakia’s highest peaks stretch out across the whole horizon.

Spiš Castle on its limestone crag, seen from an aircraft15 KM FROM THE AIRFIELD

Spiš Castle

One of the largest castle complexes in Central Europe, a few minutes’ flight from the runway.

Forested hills and a reservoir beneath the wing of a glider5 KM FROM THE AIRFIELD

Slovak Paradise

The Tomášovský výhľad viewpoint and the Hornád gorge, right behind the airfield.

Life at the club

Flying is only part of it. The rest is the airfield, the aircraft and the people around them.

We look after our aircraft ourselves

Maintenance, refuelling and rigging the gliders are as much a part of club life as flying.

Project description

The project set out to create joint cross-border training programmes to meet the needs of the Polish-Slovak labour market. They were drawn up following a detailed analysis of the existing training programmes in both countries and on the basis of working meetings between the partners. The analysis and the meetings resulted in a set of joint Polish-Slovak recommendations for teaching.

Teaching ran in parallel at both partners: gliding theory, practical training on gliders (basic course, training towards a licence) and practical training on powered aircraft (basic course, training towards a licence).

The project concluded with a conference that summarised the results achieved and led to recommendations for creating updated training programmes. These were distributed to institutions in the region (flying clubs, businesses and associations in both Poland and Slovakia). The conference also presented the project’s achievements, the training cycle and its results. It was attended by 60 people, 30 from the Polish side and 30 from the Slovak side.

Project objectives

The main objective was to introduce a joint cross-border cycle of vocational and professional training in the aviation industry. It was delivered through three specific objectives:

  1. Developing joint cross-border training programmes
  2. Promoting aviation as a route to a professional career
  3. Improving participants’ skills
